HRI Joins EU Horizon CARAMEL Project
HRI has joined the EU-funded CARAMEL Project, contributing its 17-year longitudinal cardiac device dataset to a Horizon Europe initiative focused on cardiovascular health in women.
Heart Rhythm International has joined the EU-funded CARAMEL Project as an official partner, bringing its longitudinal cardiac device dataset to a pioneering Horizon Europe initiative focused on improving cardiovascular health for women aged 40 to 60, particularly during perimenopause and menopause.
With nearly 100,000 cardiac device procedures and close to one million follow-up observations recorded on the HRI platform, the partnership positions HRI to play a central role in the development of predictive models that can identify early signs of cardiovascular risk in women during a stage of life that remains under-researched and under-supported.
What HRI Contributes
HRI's role within the consortium focuses on securely analysing patterns from implanted device data and remote monitoring to support more personalised and preventive care pathways. The depth and structure of the dataset, spanning 17 years of continuous clinical records across Irish public and private hospitals, makes it one of the most comprehensive resources available for this type of research.
Why It Matters
Perimenopause and menopause bring significant hormonal and physiological changes that can increase cardiovascular risk, yet clinical tools for early detection remain limited. CARAMEL brings together leading academic, clinical, and industry partners from across the EU, including Tampere University, to accelerate the development of data-driven tools that enhance women's heart health during this critical period.
HRI's participation reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that real-world clinical data is put to work where it can have the greatest impact: supporting more equitable, personalised care in cardiovascular medicine.
